Michelle Zimmerman, Genesis Project: Inside a School-University Partnership
What do you do when you have same-age peers in the same classroom who span 3-5 academic levels? We set out to find answers to that question in the context of generative artificial intelligence without losing human focus. NCCE 2024 was the first public announcement of Genesis Project AI. This ignite talk visually highlights the progress and challenges of a School-University partnership for translational sciences bringing participatory action research into practice while children remain central to the research questions, progress, and incorporation of AI into school-wide design. Our goal in this design is to capture the progress in a scholarly approach while directly applying authentic learning 1) focusing on what makes children irreplaceable, 2) how to support young people choosing effective tools for various situations.
