Measuring the Impact: Evaluating Cybersecurity Effectiveness Using the New Cybersecurity Rubric for Education Based on National Standards Cybersecurity attacks on schools are increasing alarmingly, putting schools under immense pressure to protect student data and ensure learning isn't interrupted. Existing cybersecurity standards are complex, costly, and not designed for Education. Recognizing this challenge, a team of innovative education organizations and K-12 leaders formed the Cybersecurity Coalition for Education and developed tools for school system leaders. Using the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), learn about the new cybersecurity tools available for Education to measure cybersecurity effectiveness! Discover details about the rubric designed to measure cybersecurity effectiveness in school systems by gauging cybersecurity practice maturity levels against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Then, uncover how to use the results from the assessment to lay out a strategy for improvement. Hear about the cybersecurity evaluator certification program and free innovative training resources. This workshop will provide school leaders with immediate support by taking the first step toward a more secure school environment. Your journey to a more cyber-secure school system begins here! Attendees will implement their cyber-investigation skills by closely examining each cybersecurity domain-category maturity level rating and supporting evidence using the new framework. Just like measuring academic performance improvement using an A-F grading system, this systematic method of continuous improvement for cybersecurity safety is a surefire way school systems will improve! Be prepared to embark on this journey as you leave this session with a complete understanding of how to measure K-12 cybersecurity effectiveness using the new cybersecurity education framework and rubric explicitly designed for education. Key takeaways include the culmination of the Cybersecurity Coalition’s work for the past two years. Access the Certified Cybersecurity Rubric Evaluator (CCRE) program to start obtaining your certification today! Learn how to use the cybersecurity rubric to conduct a self-assessment. Utilize the NIST-informed education-focused cybersecurity evaluation rubric and evaluate practices based on a maturity level using a scale of 1-5: Initial, Repeatable, Defined, Managed, or Optimized. Assign maturity levels for cybersecurity practices based on the supporting evidence. Develop a cybersecurity evaluation report based on evaluation findings.
