ML and Tech - Empowering Multilingual Learners through WIDA's Modes of Communication In this enlightening presentation, we invite you to focus on supporting multilingual learners using Google Workspace for EDU tools and a few Google Chrome Extensions.This workshop will equip you with the tools and insights needed to seamlessly integrate technology into your teaching approach. Using WIDA's modes of communication, the Google Workspace for EDU Features, and tools like Read&Write, learn how one can increase engagement and comprehension for multilingual learners. This two hour workshop support participants to Learn about Google Workspace for EDU features and tools available, how to apply these to your classroom lessons, and the two modes of communication from WIDA and how the tech tools and features support the modes of communication. NOTE: Participants should have a Google account, Google Chrome browser on their computer, and be ready to install the Chrome extension "Read&Write" to get the most out of this workshop.

BYOD Needs:
Computer or tablet that can access a Google Workspace account and trial account for Read&Write Google Chrome Extension.
Note: Be sure your electronic device has a fully charged battery as only limited power sources will be available.

Jessie Kuwada serves as a multilingual (MLL) teacher and coach in the Tukwila School District at the secondary level. Though this work, she works to include and create access for MLL students in all classes. She believes that a student-centered, relational approach to teaching will create the opportunities necessary for students furthest from educational justice, and by extension all students, to learn and grow joyfully in while in school.

Carrie earned her BA and MA degrees in English and Linguistics with an emphasis on Second Language Acquisition, and is a National Board Certified Teacher. She taught an ELL Assessment Course at the University of Washington-Seattle, and has served as a field supervisor for MLL endorsement candidates. Carrie has taught MLL for 20+ years and is now serving as an ELL/MLL Coach and teacher at Showalter Middle School.
