The Shift to Blended Learning, Mastery-Based Grading, and Student Self-Pacing: A Modern Classrooms Approach

The Modern Classrooms Project approach involves three “pillars” which include Student Self-Pacing, Mastery-Based Grading, and Blended Learning. Learn about this approach by engaging in it yourselves (station rotation and blended learning are our methods!). Hear from our ongoing cohort of teachers who are implementing MCP in classrooms across the state and explore ways that you can start learning this approach and implementing it right now! Takeaways include free resources and information on how to get started with these ideas in your own classroom.

BYOD Needs:
A computer, laptop, or tablet with a built-in web camera or external web camera. Access to WiFi to access Padlet and Flip (both free tools accessed via a URL). Headphones will be needed so participants can record their own video during the session.
Note: Be sure your electronic device has a fully charged battery as only limited power sources will be available.

Kim worked as an Environmental Engineer for 9 years and is a licensed Professional Engineer. She then worked as a high school math, computer, and engineering teacher for 6 years, including 2 years of teaching in Ghana as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Kim is currently the STEM and EdTech Coordinator for the Olympic Education Services District 114 on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas in Washington, where she honored to support teachers in all STEM and EdTech subjects.
