What’s new on the Washington OER Hub: 30 Resources in 50 Minutes

OSPI grantees and contractors from programs across the agency were hard at work last year creating exceptional instructional resources - free for educators to use and adapt. Come get a bird’s-eye view of 30 of these exciting new resources available on the Washington OER Hub. Content areas include health and physical education, Washington state history, special education, social emotional learning, social studies, world languages and financial literacy, to name a few. These robust lessons, units, professional learning resources, and full courses align with Washington learning standards and may be adapted to meet student needs and regional context. We’re not taking a deep drive into any of the materials, this is intended to spark your interest, encourage further exploration, find connections with your work, and SHARE with others.

In her role as Instructional Materials and Open Educational Resources (OER) Program Manager at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Washington, Barbara Soots implements state legislation directing collection of K–12 OER resources aligned to state learning standards and promotion of OER awareness and adoption throughout the state. Having led many events about the importance of OER in the changing educational landscape and their potential to provide equitable access to exemplar content, she is a national leader in the discussion about effective implementation of OER in K–12 and the importance of high-quality instructional materials.
