This session will spotlight work underway with OSPI's EdTech team. Information share out will include insights on the state-wide technology survey, digital equity/digital navigation grants and media literacy & digital citizenship initiatives as well as a broad overview of future initiatives.

Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship Program Supervisor

Lesley has been teaching Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship skills to secondary students since 2000, first as a Teen Services Librarian at the Seattle Public Library, then as a Research Specialist at the Bellevue Big Picture School. She is currently supporting other Washington State K-12 educators in her role as the Media Literacy & Digital Citizenship person at OSPI.

Digital Navigation Program Supervisor

Ana Ketch is the Digital Navigation Program Manager at OSPI, where she collaborates with school districts to support digital equity initiatives, including the Device Maintenance and Replacement and Digital Navigation grants. With over 20 years of experience in education, Ana has held roles in both K-12 and higher education. Prior to joining OSPI three years ago, she worked for a Washington school district and in higher education in Connecticut, gaining extensive experience in educational programs, student support and grant management.

KC Merchant is the Digital Equity & Inclusion Program Supervisor at OSPI, working with districts on bridging the digital divide and supporting and recommending adaptive and inclusive technologies to school districts across Washington State. By providing equitable access to over 23 million dollars in state grants towards 1:1 devices and adaptive and inclusive technologies, KC Merchant has over 20 years of experience in Education, as a certified classroom teacher, Director of Technology, and OSPI employee under the Educational Technology Department, KC has a passion towards supporting special Education, especially adaptive 3D printing, VR for accessibility and technologies that support student learning.

As the Director of Educational Technology with OSPI, Bre leads an innovative team committed to supporting all districts, especially rural and small districts, with digital equity and inclusion, media literacy & digital citizenship, cybersecurity, and successfully accessing and utilizing federal and state EdTech funding. In her state role, she brings a variety of educational experiences that are foundational to her advocacy for equity of access. As a rural student, classroom teacher, instructional coach, building administrator, technology director and educational service district staff, she offers wide-ranging perspectives and relevant insights that successfully supports and informs her in her leadership role.

Kristen Wallach (Presenter)

Kristen currently serves as the EdTech Program Specialist at OSPI. Prior to joining OSPI, Kristen was a teacher in Baltimore City, MD and later in University Place, WA. In her role at OSPI, Kristen provides support to K-12 districts connected to Washington's K-20 Education Network. As one of Washington's State E-Rate Coordinators, Kristen assists districts with applications and responsibilities related to the E-Rate Program, a nationwide discount program that lowers the cost of Internet access, telecommunication services, and network data services for schools and libraries.
