In the post-Covid era of stressed out, burned-out teachers, this panel discussion will take an honest look at the issues contributing to this rising trend. Teachers are the most significant factor in student outcomes, and unless schools and districts around the country can practically address the current crisis, retention rates and student achievement will continue to fall. Panelists from across the educational spectrum will discuss practical solutions to this problem, seeking to support and encourage classroom teachers, rekindle their calling, and calm the chaos.

Scott is enjoying his 8th year as a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert (MIEE) & 5th as an MIEE-Fellow, connections which have both been instrumental in fostering Scott’s passion for growing and inspiring the appropriate use of technology in the classroom. An experienced presenter and public speaker, Scott loves presenting ideas to audiences everywhere and motivating attendees to focus on identifying the “WHY” behind everything they do.

Heather Kolde has been in education for nearly three decades and is experienced working with all ages of students from kinder to college and adult. She has worked as a teacher, counselor, consultant and coach in four different states. She is currently a professional learning specialist with NCCE and a middle school math, science and STEM teacher in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Heather is passionate about intentional technology integration in the 21st century classroom and actively mentors both new and seasoned teachers in her district.

Matthew Slight is the Director of SEL for the Clarksville Montgomery Co. School System. Matthew has 27 years of public service in local and international law enforcement and public education. As an educator Matthew taught English and Criminal Justice before becoming an administrator. As an administrator he served as high school assistant principal and athletic director before serving six years as the head principal. Matthew has been married for 31 years, has five sons, and eight beautiful grandchildren. He believes we must stop preparing the path for children and instead, prepare our children for the path.

Sue Thotz is the Director of Outreach for Common Sense Education and co-founder of Equity in Action CA. In 2011, Sue began working for Common Sense by providing support and training for educators on issues of digital culture and wellness. As a co-founder of Equity in Action CA, she has facilitated conferences that emphasize the importance of identity and belonging and amplify marginalized voices in edtech spaces. Sue is the winner of the 2023 ISTE’s Making IT Happen Award. Sue holds a master's degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in zoology and chemistry.Sue Thotz is the Senior Program Manager for Common Sense Education and a co-founder of Equity in Action CA. In 2011, Sue began working for Common Sense and has provided educational leadership through keynotes, professional development workshops, conference presentations, and consulting with districts on the West coast. Sue holds a master's degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in zoology and chemistry.
